he Waiuku Film Expo is a non-profit yearly event that aims to provide an opportunity for amateur video makers and digital media artists to exhibit their work in the Waiuku Town Hall (formerly the local picture theater) while promoting and displaying Franklin local digital skills (if you are not a Franklin local you can still participate).

We will exhibit film and other projection media on a large screen in the Waiuku Town Hall.
If you make digital video of film or animation or music videos - anything that can be displayed in a projector - you can have your work included for exhibition. Other digital media may also be submitted - give it go, come on...

Hi My name is Euan Craig, I'm the director and creator of the Waiuku Film Expo.

I work with a lot of digital media - Graphic design, film, animation (2D & 3D) and a host of other things. I thought it would be a good idea to have an exhibition of digital media for Franklin as there are numerous art exhibitions around, but none for film and other specifically digital based media.

2009 will be the third year running for the Waiuku Film Expo and it seems to get bigger and better each year. 2007 was the first year for the expo, at the time there was practically no outlet for amateur and professional film makers to exhibit their work, certainly not in Franklin. 2009 sees many similar exhibitions around NZ popping up so we now require even more support from local artists and businesses, just to keep up with the other expos around NZ.

If you are a keen film maker or digital artist, or would like to be one, then join this site and be part of our digital community (You will be one of the first too!). Any expressions of interest in the expo are always welcomed.

As usual I will be showing some of my work from the year at the expo, usually this includes some 3D animation that I have been working with.

Media submission guidlines

If you would like to exhibit your film/digital work please follow these guidelines:

The preferred movie formats are, in order:
1. MPEG-4 AVC / H.264 / AVCHD.
2. HD MPEG-2.
3. WMV HD.
4. MOV (Quicktime).
5. AVI.
6. Whatever you can do...
Movies are preferred as high definition 1080i, 2 channel stereo audio.
Preferably not compressed to a DVD with menus, as this would reformat the movie into a non-high definition format. Just burnt onto disk as a raw movie file is best.
Preferred media: DVD disk, we can also accept media on USB and CD but NOT celluloid film or VHS (analogue).
Maximum duration: 10 minutes, no minimum duration.
Submission deadline: 1st October 2009.
Media with excessive violence or sexual content may not be accepted into the expo (submissions are subject to a screening before exhibition).

If you need help with formats or other technical issues please contact wfx2@live.com or phone 021 0447 482. If you have something that does not fit into these guidelines but would like it exhibited regardless, please contact WFX and discuss your idea.

Media will be displayed on the biggest and clearest projections system available to WFX, audio will also follow a similar track. Media will NOT be exhibited or used in any other way other that as part of the WFX2009 exhibition unless prior arrangements are made with the owner of the media.

Terms and conditions are subject to change as this is a non-profit event that is based around the submissions of artist that may not be fully known until closer to the exhibition screening. Changes will be listed as they arise on this page.
